What Is Light Dynamic Painting?
Light Dynamic Painting (also known as double exposure painting or light reactive painting) is a visual technique in which a single object changes appearance under different colored lights or filters. This creates the illusion of movement or transformation without altering the physical surface of the piece. The effect, known as the Samoilloff Effect, was popularized in the 1920s for theatre, vaudeville, and early black-and-white film.
Aerica first began using this process in 2019 when she found herself limited by traditional painting. She applies the technique to her already expressive painting style as a means of exploring the ever-changing nature of existence. The fully hand-painted compositions are designed to reveal new details, colors, and forms within the image in a way traditional paintings simply cannot. This approach uses no digital projection or electronic alteration—only traditional painting methods combined with controlled lighting to create a shifting visual experience rooted in both craftsmanship and concept.
